{"id":999881411,"date":"2015-03-25T22:33:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T22:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wpstage.dice.com\/?p=99565116"},"modified":"2015-03-25T22:33:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-25T22:33:00","slug":"mind-the-gap-kick-start-mobile-recruiting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dicepilot.npgdev.com\/hiring\/recruitment\/mind-the-gap-kick-start-mobile-recruiting","title":{"rendered":"Mind the Gap: How to Kick-Start Your Mobile Recruiting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During our latest Social Recruiting Pro Tips Webinar, recruiting strategist Jessica Miller-Merrell (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jmillermerrell\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">@jmillermerrell<\/span><\/a>) of Xceptional HR illustrated the growing importance of mobile devices in engaging with tech pros:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhen I go to a restaurant or conference, I will leave my purse with my laptop at the desk, or at the table with my friends when going to the bar for cocktails with my girls \u2026 but I will take my mobile phone with me when I go to the restroom.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c7212b;\"><strong>The numbers prove that Jessica isn\u2019t alone in taking her phone virtually everywhere:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Smartphone penetration has reached 75% in America (<a href=\"http:\/\/marketingland.com\/report-us-smartphone-penetration-now-75-percent-117746\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">ComScore<\/span><\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>19% of job seekers use mobile devices to look for jobs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/blog\/easy-tips-to-leverage-mobile-recruiting\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">SmartRecruiters<\/span><\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>57% of job seekers would like to use mobile devices to look for jobs; they\u2019re currently waiting for technology to catch up (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartrecruiters.com\/blog\/easy-tips-to-leverage-mobile-recruiting\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">SmartRecruiters<\/span><\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c7212b;\"><strong>And yet:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>59% of recruiters have not invested in mobile career sites (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jobvite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Jobvite_SocialRecruiting_Survey2014.pdf\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Jobvite<\/span><\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There\u2019s a gap between how mobile friendly professionals are and how mobile friendly most recruiting efforts are. This gap offers you an opportunity to stand out from the crowd with tech professionals.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c7212b;\"><strong>Jessica offers three steps to kick start enhancing your mobile capabilities:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Survey recent hire<\/strong>s \u2013 While you already collect data on how candidates were referred to you, you probably don\u2019t survey new hires thoroughly on their job search. You should ask your new hires about they engaged with different channels (IE social sites and career sites like Dice) and different platforms (IE desktop and mobile devices) throughout their search.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prioritize your mobile strategy within your broader recruiting strategy<\/strong> \u2013 Jessica reminds us that mobile is more than a mobile version of a career site. Everything from sourcing to employer branding can be made more mobile friendly. Create a roadmap for which efforts you\u2019ll align with your mobile efforts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Start with a pilot program<\/strong> \u2013 Once you have your priorities set, take one priority and structure a pilot program that has a clear timetable for showing a lift in results. For example, your pilot may aim to increase mobile visits to your career site through an investment in content for your social media channels. Or you may seek to increase engagement rates with candidates by testing the best times for outreach; using a <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/dice-recruiter\/id941464115?mt=8\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> sourcing app like Dice Recruiter<\/span><\/a> to find and engage candidates when you are away from your desk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c7212b;\"><strong>Your pilot program can take many shapes, including:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Making your career site mobile friendly<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Absolutely a no- brainer. One of the best ways to argue for a mobile site is to get your boss to access your site on his or her phone, and then go to a mobile-optimized site. Night and day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Optimizing emails for mobile devices<\/strong> \u2013 One way to increase response rates is to optimize your email communications for mobile devices. As you tweak your communications, realize that subject lines are truncated on mobile devices. In addition, your body copy needs to be short and broken up into small chunks. Test all of your email templates on mobile devices to see how they read and how peers would feel about responding to them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recruiting from a mobile device<\/strong> \u2013 As mentioned before, you don\u2019t have to be tethered to a desk to recruit.
